The Year's Best Military SF and Space Opera Arrives

Came home yesterday to find these waiting of the front porch.

Feeling a bit like George McFly at the end of Back to the Future, without the attempted rapist waxing my car. (Oh Biff, you scoundrel!) Anyway, pretty cool stuff.

Once again, the book will be out June 2nd, and is available for pre-order now.

Conferring with Dragons

Hey, look who's listed as an attending professional at DragonCon this year. Click here to find out. (If you don't want to click the link, I'll spoil it for you: Me.)

That's right, folks, I will be making my way to Hotlanta* this Labor Day weekend to confer with dragons of various sorts. Actually, I'll be there to do various geeky things and, more importantly, to hand out the very first Baen Year's Best Military SF and Space Opera Award. The award is a readers' choice award that uses the table of contents from Year's Best Military SF and Space Opera as the ballot. Obviously, I'm interested to see who wins as I think the whole darn book is pretty top-notch.

Also: YOU can vote! That's right, YOU can help determine who I fork over the award to come Labor Day Weekend. Just purchase your copy of The Year's Best Military SF and Space Opera (available for pre-order here), read the stories, pick your fave, then follow the instructions at the front of the book to learn how to vote. Nothing could be easier!

Anyway, should be lots of fun. If you're going to be there, let me know and we'll try and meet up.

* My friend Lucas, who lived in Atlanta for many years, assures me that NO ONE calls it Hotlanta. I prefer not to believe him.

Year's Best Military SF and Space Opera Reviewed in Publishers Weekly

I've mentioned that I think you would enjoy the anthology I edited, The Year's Best Military SF and Space Opera, which comes out from Baen Books this June. But, like LeVar Burton always says, "Don't take my word for it."

Publishers Weekly gave The Year's Best Military SF and Space Opera a starred review. And it's a good one! Actually, I'd say it's a great one. Not a negative word in it. I won't paste the whole thing here, but I was particularly pleased with this sentence. And I quote: "Every story takes the reader on a fascinating, thought-provoking, enjoyable journey into the militarized future."

Year's Best Military SF and Space Opera

I'm extremely excited to announce that The Year's Best Military SF and Space Opera will be out from Baen Books this June. Why am I pleased to announce this? Because I'm the editor of this fine volume. See, name's on the cover and everything, down there in the bottom corner.

The book features 15 stories of military derring-do and pulp-inflected adventure, from top writers in the field. Master of military SF David Drake was kind enough to supply an introduction, which is worth the price of admission, if you ask me.

The on-sale date is June 2nd, but it's available for preorder now, from all fine booksellers. For your convenience, I've included the links to Amazon and Barnes & Noble below. But feel free to order it from your bookseller of choice. So long as you buy it, I don't care where you get it from. ;)

I'll be writing more about the book, sharing news and some thoughts on putting it together, in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for updates.
